I am so excited to be sharing the details of our recent get away to Kansas City! Most of you know that I frequently travel to KC to visit my sister – and while we usually pack a lot into these visits, we usually have our babies in tow and don’t make it to all of the fun places I have been hoping to go.
We go on an annual trip with some our best friends and decided to stay closer to home this year and road trip to the KC area. We packed a lot into our visit, so I decided to break up the trip into separate posts to cover it all 🙂
For the first part of our trip, we went to Excelsior Springs, MO – a small town outside of Kansas City. We stayed at the historic Elms Hotel & Spa.
After arriving at The Elms, us girls checked into the spa while the guys headed out to golf. We had the BEST experience at the spa!! We both purchased the Elms Spa Package – which included a massage, facial, mani and pedi. We started by relaxing in the quite room before heading off to our massages and facials. Following those amazing treatments, we had lunch and then went to the amazing grotto area. This are was one of my favorites parts of the spa! There were both wet and dry saunas as well as luxurious body scrubs and showers. We had access to the grotto area the whole day and got a lot of relaxation in! We finished our spa day with our mani & pedi where our stylists shared stories of their frequent celebrity visitors to the spa!!

Our rooms at The Elms were very cute and kept the historic feel of the hotel while still feeling modern. I highly recommend upgrading to the Royal Experience. This package puts you on the 5th floor and includes many additional amenities like a lounge with refreshments all day, a concierge hour with wine and appetizers, and valet service. After our spa day, we enjoyed happy hour in the private lounge area – you can’t beat free wine and apps ,)
^^ Enjoying our happy hour
The Elms has 2 restaurants and a cafe in the hotel. Their signature restaurant, 88 at the Elms, is where we had originally planned on having dinner. This farm-to-table restaurant uses local ingredients and gets great reviews. After starting our night with several glasses of wine, we decided to try a local winery that we heard about during our spa day – and we are soooo glad we did!!
We feel so lucky to have found the Van Till Winery. This family owned winery sits a couple miles outside of Excelsior Springs. We learned from one of the family members that the family had run an organic farm in CO prior to the winery. We enjoyed a wine tasting ($6 per person!!!!) and were very impressed with their selection of wines – btw, we went to Napa last year and are total wine experts ,)
After our tasting, we head out to their patio area where they serve wood fired pizzas. This quaint outdoor area is open year round and I think we may need a trip back soon!
^^Super creepy pic of our hotel when we got back for the night. Rumor is it is haunted!!
After sleeping in, we made a trip to the Waffle House for some greasy and delicious breakfast. We then packed up and headed into KC. We had such a fun time at The Elms. If I had to do it again, I would have stayed 2 nights at the hotel to allow a little more time to explore the grounds and hotel in addition to getting our full spa day in. I think we may need to make this an annual visit! Stay tuned for part 2 and the details on what we did the rest of the trip in KC!
